Located a scenic 90 km drive south of Adelaide, historic Port Elliot has been a favourite holiday location for more than 150 years. Its centrepiece is the stunning Horseshoe Bay, a safe swimming beach for the whole family. The village centre provides fascinating insights into a rich past. Here the SteamRanger Cockle Train makes regular stops and the historic buildings of the Strand, with its fascinating bookshops, and great pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. In winter, whales can often be spotted from local vantage points. Victor Harbor, the major regional centre, is just a ten-minute drive from Port Elliot with attractions such as beautiful beaches, golf courses, Granite Island, the Bluff, Urimbirra Wildlife Park and the SA Whale Centre. Fifteen minutes east of Port Elliot is the historic river town of Goolwa and the famous McLaren Vale wine region is only a short drive away.
